Cartoonist Fired For Drawing Trump Playing Golf Next To Drowned Migrants

A Canadian political cartoonist claims he is the victim of political pressure after he was fired for tweeting out a cartoon of President Trump playing golf over the bodies of a drowned migrant and his toddler daughter who were reportedly making the trek to the United States. The bodies of Oscar Alberto Martinez, 25, and his 23-month-old daughter, Valeria, were found June 23 of this year, where they apparently tried to cross the Rio Grande from Mexico into the U.S.

Canadian cartoonist Michael de Adder says he lost his freelance contract with Brunswick News because of the cartoon. It shows Trump with a golf club in his hand saying, "Mind if I play through?" while he stands over the bodies of the man and child.

Brunswick News says the cartoon had nothing to do with its decision to drop de Adder. The company says it had decided to bring back another cartoonist "long before this cartoon."

De Adder says his reputation is at stake, and he plans to fight back. "The Premier of New Brunswick Blaine Higgs is a former Irving Oil executive and any cartoon I drew that was slightly critical of him was systematically axed. You want to know why I was let go? I wanted to do my job as an editorial cartoonist, and they wanted me to do their job," he tweeted recently.

De Adder also claims Brunswick News axed every Trump cartoon he submitted in the past year.
