Drake finally dropped the anticipated music video for his smash hit "Nokia," and fans are convinced he included a few subliminal shots at Kendrick Lamar.
On Monday, March 31, Drizzy debuted the official visuals for the OVO Sound co-founder's hit single off his and PARTYNEXTDOOR's joint album $ome $exy $ongs 4 U. The black-and-white video, directed by Theo Skudra and shot in IMAX, shows Drake surrounded by a fleet of women as they dance to the Elkan-produced song. Canadian NBA player Shai Gilgeous-Alexander rocks a Vaffanculo jacket and promotes his new Converse sneakers in one scene. Yet, other moments in the video got fans buzzing about possible digs at K.Dot.
Some people on social media believe Drake attempted to mock Kendrick Lamar's successful run since their beef exploded last year in his new music video. After the video dropped, one fan pointed to one scene where Drake dances in sync with another woman and compared it to the black-and-white scene in Lamar's "Not Like Us" video where he danced with his partner Whitney Alford and their kids. He also likened the overhead shot of the plethora of women doing the choreographed dance to the red, white and blue dancers in Lamar's Super Bowl Halftime show.
"Drake flipping the switch Kendrick has been mocking and copying Drake for years so he gave him a taste of his own medicine in this video," the fan wrote. "To me Nokia song is a response to squabble up, and dodger blue."
Other fans also did the most to point out the alleged shots at Lamar in Drake's music video. They likened shots of Drake in the middle of his dancers to the Compton native's position during his Super Bowl set. They also believed Drake trolled Lamar in the opening shot of his video by mocking Dot's dance moves in his "Squabble Up" video. There's also speculation that the final scene in the video is a response to Lamar. In it, Drake shows a flock of six owls perched menacingly, which instantly sparked comparisons to the caged owl Lamar included in his "Not Like Us" video.
