Blue Ivy Carter made history at the NAACP Image Awards!
Beyonceâs 8-year-old daughter picked up a pretty impressive trophy at the ceremonyâs non-televised dinner on Friday (February 21), bringing home the award for Outstanding Duo, Group or Collaboration for the song âBrown Skin Girl,â which appears on the soundtrack for 2019âs The Lion King live-action remake, The Lion King: The Gift. Blue won the trophy for her work on the record that features her mom and fellow collaborators SAINt JHN and WizKiD. Not only does Blue sing on the track, she also has a song writing credit as well.
As her grandmother, Tina Knowles-Lawson pointed out in a celebratory social media post, the win is a pretty big deal for Blue, considering sheâs the youngest person ever to earn an award of such esteem. "Congratulations BLUE IVY on your NAACP award last night for songing [sic] and writing on âBrown Skin Girlâ from the Album The Gift. đđŸđđŸ" Tina captioned a photo of her granddaughter. "The youngest artist to win a major awardđđŸđđŸGrandma is soo proud of youâ€ïžâ€ïžâ€ïž 8 years old!!!!đđŸâ€ïž You are giving all the beautiful little brown girls a voice â€ïž,â she wrote on the social media app. Congrats!!!
In addition, Queen Bey took home three more trophies from the function for her work on the Lion King, including Outstanding Female Artist and Outstanding Soundtrack/Compilation Album.
Fans should know, this isnât the first time Blue has performed a song. Sheâs appeared on many of her mother and father Jay-Zâs music projects, including âGlory,â âLift Evâry Voice and Sing,â and âBlue.â
